The Town of Massapequa Park held the annual Earth Day Cleanup at Brady Park.
South Bay volunteers headed by our environment leader Charlie Nicolas were
given plastic bags to gather the debris.
After the
cleanup food was supplied to the volunteers.
On Friday, April 4th Dominick and Dorothy Schiavone visited The
Presbyterian Nursery School to read nursery rhyme books to three classes.
The children
enjoyed the readings and joined in singing some nursery rhymes. Each child
received a book to take home for their parents to read to them. They all put
their names in the books.
On
March 12, 2008 Dorothy and Dominick Schiavone and Hank and Marge Koehler
went to The Queen of the Most Holy Rosary pantry in Roosevelt and presented
ten $10.00 Easter Food cards and a supply of food to be distributed.
The cards and food is always needed and appreciated.

On March 11, 2008 Hank and Marge Koehler went with Carolyn and Bill Rose
to deliver ten $10.00 Easter Food Gift cards to Lutheran Family Services
in Uniondale.
Carolyn has also been delivering baby clothing that the Services pack
into baby layettes. They are so grateful for our donations.
On Tuesday, January 22, 2008
the Verizon TelecomPioneers visited the
Woodhull
Elementary school in Shirley. 145 third grade
students were given a dictionary to keep as their own, and given a presentation
on how to use those dictionaries.

On
January 11, 2008 Hank and Dorothy Koehler joined Dorothy Schiavone at the
Presbyterian Nursery School for the Mother Goose Reads program.
The children enjoyed stories and joined in singing some of the rhymes.
Dorothy distributed 80 books to the children. The teachers have
already requested a return visit for some of the other classes.
Mother Goose sang and read to 141 kindergarteners and then presented each student with their own book to take
home.
A 9’ x 11’ US map rug was also
presented to the school for the 5th
graders. These students assisted us in
collecting,
7 old watches, 8 used cell phones, 15 eyeglasses, 17 used ink cartridges, 4
blankets, 4 hats, 3 mittens, 3 scarves, 5 children’s winter
jackets, 1 child’s
snow suit, 7
tote bags, coupons, and 300 can tabs from soft drinks.
