Our Life Member Spotlight is on...
Teresa Serafinin of the Kinnard Chapter Teresa started at Bell Telephone in April, 1951, as an operator. Her various positions included senior operator, clerk, dispatcher, assignment, and special service order coordinator. Becoming a Pioneer in 1972, she has been involved for many years in fundraising and continues to serve as treasurer. Retiring in 1991 did not mean she stopped working. Each Tuesday, the Hazleton Club meets to work on several projects including Hug-A-Bears, quilts and lap robes. In addition, Teresa stays busy with monthly executive board meetings. Teresa collects and houses items for two Pioneer fundraising garage sales. She has had a garage sale in her garage twice a year for the past five years. Teresa also volunteers at her church. She is often found helping in the kitchen, cleaning the church or doing mailings at the church rectory. The coordinator for the American Red Cross Blood Drive at her church, Teresa is a 20-gallon donor. On Fridays, Teresa and a number of other ladies sit four hours at a time selling chances for the July church raffle that usually raises $10,000 after expenses. She volunteers with Catholic Social Services distributing food, clothing and whatever else is needed. And after all that, Teresa spends much of her week driving senior citizens to church, doctors and the grocery store. |

President Obama is offering Americans a unique opportunity to
support his economic recovery program through a community
service initiative June 22 - Sept. 11. The Corporation for
National and Community Service, the key coordinating federal
partner, is working with the White House, federal agencies and
hundreds of non-profit and community groups. Pioneer chapters
and councils are encouraged to participate in this initiative
through local volunteer activities. Please contact Diane Rodger
at
info@verizonpioneers.org for more information and to report
your group's support. The initiative will culminate with a
National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11, 2009.
The culmination will provide an opportunity to recognize the
summer's accomplishments, honor those who died on September 11,
2001 by serving in their memory, and encourage Americans to make
an ongoing commitment to service. For more information, visit
ServiceInitiative@cns.gov.
