2008 EVEREST KLIMB FOR KIDS

An educational project presented by

The Verizon Foundation

Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity

and Verizon TelecomPioneers.

A little history….

In 2007, the Verizon Foundation and volunteers from the Verizon TelecomPioneers partnered with Dr Tim Warren and local schools to follow his trek  to climb Mt. Everest.

Dr. Tim is a Chiropractor in RI and has been climbing major mountains for quite a few years.

With funding for his communications equipment by the Verizon TelecomPioneers, Dr. Tim was able to transmit pictures and communicate via email to his website. He successfully integrated his pre-trip classroom lectures along with questions from children in classrooms throughout the eastern states to provide a once in a lifetime classroom learning experience.

Using local training tools as well as the newly redesigned Verizon Foundation’s Thinkfinity, an on-line educational resource, the children had an opportunity to utilize technology and integrate geography, history, social studies and math.

The children also had an opportunity to learn about giving back.  Dr. Tim’s main reason for climbing Mt. Everest is to raise money for A Wish Come True, Inc. http://www.awish.org.

In 2007 Dr. Tim raised and donated  $15,000.00.

We were along for the ride whether he made it or not.  Dr. Tim did not make it to the final peak and top of Mt. Everest in 2007 due to a severe cold.

He will be making a 2nd attempt in March of 2008 and we want you to join us once again for the ride of a lifetime.
