"A Book About Me" a hit!
The West Virginia Chapter hosted a pizza party
and presented more than 60 home school students from Kanawha and
Putnam Counties with "A Book About Me." The party was held in the
basement of the 1500 MacCorkle Ave. facility on May 24.
Over the past several years, the chapter has provided these
personalized books to more than 4,000 children across the Mountain
State.
"These books are great learning tools for first and second
graders," said Harold Neal, president of the West Virginia Chapter.
"Parents use these books to help their children learn to read."
This story was picked up by WOWK-TV (CBS) and WSAZ-TV (NBC).

Cruisin' for Kids raises almost $6,000!
The Southern Tier Council of the Excelsior
Chapter raised almost $6,000 with its 2nd Annual Cruisin' for
Kids day-long party. This money will fund educational projects,
including 911 simulators and computers.
Michelle Fuller, president of the Southern Tier Council, said,
"The emergency call simulator is likely to draw a lot of interest
when Steuben County's 911 system begins operation the first quarter
of 2005. The TelecomPioneers will take the simulators to local
classrooms to give students practice using 911 in case of
emergencies. There are two age-appropriate curriculums for different
grade levels."
Pam Senkow, VP of the Elmira/Corning L/M Club, is featured in
the photo. Jo Miller with the Southern Tier Council won the 2004
Harley Davidson that was raffled off. |
