“Project
Connect” is new Pioneer project
The TelecomPioneers
Board of Directors has approved plans to move forward with
preliminary development of “Project Connect” – a technology-related
project consisting of six web-based interactive games geared toward
children in 4th through 7th grade.
Through Project
Connect, Pioneers and technology partner Digitalmill strive to
combine the enjoyment of playing a game with a targeted educational
lesson. The TelecomPioneers believe this technology-related learning
tool is a positive reflection of the global reach, history and
advancement of the telecom industry.

Paumanok
Promotes EvenStart
Through the
South
Shore
EvenStart
Center
on Long Island, NY, non-English speaking pre-schoolers and their
families are required to attend classes so that upon entering the
public school system these children and their parents will have a
basic understanding of English. The adult first reads the Spanish
book and then helps his or her child read the English version.
This prepares the child to receive an "even start" upon entering
kindergarten. The Paumanok Chapter donated 50 Spanish Preschool
thru 2nd grade books and the corresponding English versions as
well as a roving book case. "The feed back has been really good,"
said Lorraine Gettis,
Paumanok vice president. For more information, e-mail
