Verizon communicates off - and online with its customers with disabilities
People with disabilities will tell you that technology is a great tool and a great equalizer in terms of helping them communicate. As a telecommunications pioneer, Verizon has long had programs, products, and services designed to improve and advance the opportunities for the one in five Americans with a disability.
Tens of thousands of callers have benefited from the Verizon Centers for Customers with Disabilities (VCCDs) in Massachusetts and California. Staffed by expert consultants, the VCCDs provide an array of services such as switching a customer to large type or Braille billing, and recommending and ordering innovative phone equipment. You can learn more about the VCCDs by calling 800-974-6006 V/TTY.
The growing constituency of people with disabilities and their caretakers are also discovering Forward Access, Verizon’s online newsletter created as resource especially for their needs. The newsletter provides its readers with industry updates and personal profiles—ranging from WNBA stars to “bird listeners!” —as well as information on new products and opportunities, both from within the Verizon network of services and throughout the disabilities community. It’s a great way to stay in touch with Verizon’s ongoing efforts. Check out Forward Access either as a PDF or a screen-ready html on
www.verizon.com/forwardaccess.

Jan Liebner, Life Member of the Year
Excelsior Chapter, Buffalo Club
Jan has been a Life Member for five years and has been the Western Area’s Pioneer Store Manager for three years. She has reported 600 hours plus for the year (administrative and participation). She publicized and recruited many volunteers for projects by personal request at the Pioneer Store and through phone calls, flyers and attendance at Pioneer meetings. Jan has brought new projects to the Pioneers, such as Harvest House. Her management of the store with an annual bottom line of $8,000 profit has proven to be a significant contribution as a fund raiser to the Active Council and three Life Member Clubs. More info.
Congratulations, Verizon!
The Disability Rights Advocates (DRA) recently awarded the Verizon Corporation its annual Americans with Disabilities Act Eagle Award. DRA, a national disability law center based in California, gives out the award to leaders in creating employment, product design, and appropriate accommodations for people with disabilities.
