Congrats, WJ Denver Chapter!
The William J. Denver Chapter was awarded two grants of $9,487 each - one for the Springfield School System and the other for the Rhode Island School System. The chapter’s goal is to provide ABAM books to every child at the Kindergarten and 1st grade level. The grants were awarded through the TelecomPioneers Foundation Fund (formerly the Pioneers Foundation).  This year, the TPFF awarded nearly $80,000 in grants to Pioneer groups and their nominated school systems across the United States to support the Pioneers educational efforts. Extra credit for schools
Put away that checkbook, because when you sign up for Extra Credit for Schools, Verizon will invest in your child's education on your behalf. The corporation will donate 5% of your monthly long distance usage through Verizon to a participating school of your choice. Each quarter your school, district, or educational foundation gets a check.
Contributions are automatically made in your name, and you invest no money. Simply tell us which school district or foundation you want to benefit, then choose your long distance plan. Register online at http://www22.verizon.com/foryourhome/ExtraCredit/overview.asp.

It feels good to give

Triangle Council, NC, Verizon West Chapter
The Mekye Center Saturday Academy I-CAN program is for children with learning differences/disabilities, dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, dyspraxia, ADD, and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder). Most of the children have limited resources and come from low-income families in Durham, Orange, and surrounding counties. We first helped last year by purchasing learning materials for the I-CAN academy. We provided learning videos, math counting blocks, work sheets and reading materials, etc. Throughout the year, we provided binders, paper, pens and pencils to the Center. The Verizon West Chapter was so impressed with our efforts, that they gave us $6,100 to donate to the Center. The photo depicts us delivering the check.

Thomas Sherwin Chapter cleans up YMCA
By: Dan Carnali, president, Thomas Sherwin Chapter
For our Vice President's Project this year, more than 20 Thomas Sherwin Chapter members came out bright and early on a Sunday moring to help get the Dartmouth, Mass., YMCA ready to open for another busy season. Over 300 children a day use this YMCA. We donated three 55 foot poles for a climbing tower being built this fall to go with its ropes course. We also assisted in clearing and trimming back trails, and placing fencing for the archery area.

22nd Annual Sports Jamboree June 25-27
Volunteers and financial donations needed
The Leonard H. Kinnard Chapter will hold its 22nd Annual Sports Jamboree at Fort Indiantown Gap June 25-27. The Jamboree provides an opportunity for sight-impaired and wheelchair users to participate in sports activities by utilizing equipment developed by the TelecomPioneers for use in basketball, softball, archery, horseshoes, races, bicycle riding, frisbee throws, etc. The Kinnard Chapter provides lodging and all meals for the contestants, their families and the volunteers during the entire weekend. Volunteers assist with games, construction, clean up, security and act as hosts and hostesses to the contestants and their families. Thousands of volunteer hours are accumulated as a result of this event.
If you would like additional information, or want to help through volunteering or through financial aid, please contact the Kinnard Chapter at 1-800-322-6710, or e-mail:
