Sherwin Chapter builds wheelchair
ramp
By: Dan Carnali, president, Thomas Sherwin
Chapter
We recently built a wheel chair ramp in
Whitman, Mass. The wife of a fellow Pioneer had suffered a massive
stroke that left her wheelchair bound. Pioneers from the Brockton,
Mass. garage came together, drew up plans, and ordered lumber.
Twenty Pioneers completed the ramp in two days. The Rhode Island
Dispatch Center provided pizzas and refreshments.

Playground
Maps Go Hollywood!
About halfway
through "The Manchurian Candidate," which stars Denzel Washington,
actors step out of a vehicle... and directly onto a
Pioneer playground map. According
to information listed on a web site for the movie, some scenes were
filmed at P.S. 32 Elementary School in Yonkers, New York. |

UNSUNG HEROES
This month's spotlight is on...
Arlene Heintzelman
In 1989, Arlene retired from Bell of Pennsylvania and
has spent most of her free time volunteering. She types and files two
days a week in the L.H. Kinnard Chapter office. Her biggest
responsibility, however, is coordinating volunteers for the local
Pioneers' biggest event, the summer Sports Jamboree for children
with disabilities. She also volunteers with the MS Bike Tour,
Keystone State Games, Big 33, bingo at an adult day-care center and
with more than a dozen organizations. "I like doing it," Heintzelman
said. "I don't want to be sitting home all the time." |

Trick or
treat!
Great ideas
for Halloween fundraising & volunteer projects!
Halloween is fast approaching and we have some fun
ideas to help you enjoy this spooky time of year. You can host a
Harvest Fest or Haunted House, trick or treat for canned goods, sell
pumpkins and goblin insurance, or even clean up Halloween messes...
for a price. You can make or collect used Halloween costumes to
donate. And you can also hold a pre-Halloween safety party for
parents and children. Learn more about these projects and many
others at
http://www.telecompioneers.org/home/trickortreat.asp. |
