McCully Up raises $6,300!
by: Jane Ore, president - HG
McCully Upstate
The H.G. McCully Upstate Chapter in N.J.
held its 5th Annual Tricky Tray Auction on Friday, Sept. 16, at the
Totowa Police Athletic League. The chapter posted the auction on
www.trickytray.com and sold out its
tickets. It was a fun-filled night and many folks went home happy
with a bunch of prizes. This event is an opportunity for Pioneer
friends to get together socially and reunite with co-workers from
previous offices. The councils and clubs worked all year soliciting
gift donations and making their own. The chapter hosted eight
workshops teaching members how to create gift baskets. It was an
awesome effort from our councils, clubs and chapter. All in all, we
had 242 gifts. The chapter also sold hot dogs, soda, and water to
realize a profit of more than $6,300. It's a lot of hard work, but
also a lot of fun. The fundraising effort was well worth it. |

Fast Responders
It didn't take Verizon TelecomPioneers long to
reach out to Hurricane Katrina victims. Within days of the storm,
Pioneers had begun answering phones for local telethons, collecting
and delivering necessities directly to the coast, cleaning and
preparing facilities for evacuees, donating funds, and ramping up
Hug-A-Bear production.

The Life Member Spotlight is on... Ina May Krauer
Look out here she comes! This Pioneer is a
pistol! Ina May always has something to say, and she says it with
such enthusiasm that it's contagious. Where ever she is, there is
laughter and a good time. Ina May has been a member of the Patchogue
Life Member Club, Paumanok Chapter in New York since 1984. She has
held leadership positions in her club throughout the years, but has
found her niche as the fundraiser. Her fundraisers are always
creative, and she inspires people to open their wallets again and
again to support Pioneering.
Her community service work is endless. On a weekly basis, she
works at a local soup kitchen and volunteers at a senior citizens
home leading Bingo. Annually, she volunteers for the Juvenile
Diabetes and MS Walks. Ina May is always at the coastal and
community clean ups. She is active on veterans' projects helping
send care packages to troops and cooking and serving Thanksgiving
dinners to homeless veterans. Ina May volunteers in Suffolk
Council's store and helps each year with the task of mailing the
chapter calendars and sweepstakes. Ina May is a tiny little thing
with a very large personality. |

TelecomPioneers Disaster Relief Recognition Policy
As Pioneers continue to provide relief in the
aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it is important to clarify the
current policy for Annual Meeting recognition of these efforts. The
Association Board of Directors decided in 1998-99 to eliminate
disaster relief as an award category. The two key reasons behind
this decision were: 1) the Board believed it was inappropriate to
promote a competitive element in times of disaster and; 2) disaster
relief efforts by their very nature were easily winning out over
planned projects. Although there are no physical awards, disaster
relief efforts are acknowledged during a business session of the
Annual Meeting. |
