Paumanok sends soldiers a "Holiday in a Box"
On Friday, Oct. 14, the Paumanok Chapter in Babylon, NY, put together boxes filled with holiday decorations, homemade cookies, snacks and other goodies to make the holidays a little nicer for the chapter's 10 adopted soldiers and their units serving in Iraq, two of whom are Verizon employees on Long Island. This project began two years ago when a son of one of the chapter members had written home and told his parents about the loneliness and lack of support he was experiencing. The chapter created the "Freedom isn't Free" program to let our troops know we support and appreciate them.

Mountain Valley supports Diversity Day
In September, the Mountain Valley Empire Chapter co-hosted Diversity Day in White Plains, NY, with the Verizon Diversity Group. They set up tables in a large room where United Way, Habitat for Humanity, and other non-profit organizations could hand out informational pamphlets and answer questions. In addition, there was a presentation time where each non-profit representative could speak for five minutes. Employees were encouraged to attend and learn more about volunteerism.
