The WV-FL Retiree Reunion
The West Virginia-Florida Bunch Retirees C &
Pers Reunion began in Melbourne, FL, in 1990 with 20
attendees. For the past 10 years, the reunion has been held in
Longwood, FL. Because the Annual TPA Meeting was held this year in
Orlando, reunion planners decided to host the reunion immediately
after the Annual Meeting. Shirley Sergent, Pat Reveal, and Geneva
Templin made a presentation about the dictionary project to
reunion attendees. More than $200 was collected at the reunion to
help provide dictionaries to the third graders of W.V.
Many thanks to Ruby Clendenin, who for the past five years,
has sent reunion invitations to more than 200 retirees. Due to
illness, Ms. Clendenin was unable to attend.
The reunion is open to all retirees of any telecommunications
entity living full or part time in Florida. For more
information, e-mail

more. WMUR Channel 9 provided excellent television coverage on the

The Life
Member Spotlight is on... Bea Koskie
Bea Koskie, a mother of three, began her volunteer
service with Peoples Place in 1983 after retiring from New York
Telephone Co. For Bea, retirement didn’t mean sitting back and
relaxing. The energetic woman who is quick with a smile needed
something to do. The "something to do" turned into a full time job
as director of Peoples Place. She supervised shifts of 40
volunteers and ensured the food pantry was stocked and the clothes
racks filled. She watched over the operation of the popular
Thanksgiving turkey giveaway and Christmas toy programs.
Peoples Place is the busiest food pantry in the Hudson
Valley. In 2001, they purchased, packed and delivered 598,000
meals to local residents. She managed the daily operations of
ordering and packing enough food for the families so that they
would have three days worth of food at a time. In April 2001,
after 18 years of dedicated service, Bea decided it was time
retire. She continues to volunteer in an advisory capacity and is
still an active member in the Kingston Life Member Club with the
Mountain Valley Empire Chapter. |

A family that volunteers together...
makes a difference together!
We all know how Pioneering hooks people and doesn’t
let go. The Reading Pioneer Club, LH Kinnard Chapter, has two
generations of Pioneers. They are Doris Epler, past chapter
president and life member rep; daughter Linda, twice chapter
president; daughter Sue, chapter vice president; daughter, Liz;
and son, Jim.
Doris has been a long-time club treasurer and chapter
secretary. She knits baby and cancer hats, makes Hug-A-Bears,
works as a foster grandmother, and many other projects.
Linda chairs the chapter's Educational Opportunity Committee
and is in training to become chapter webmaster. She also worked
with her father, before he died, painting maps on school
playgrounds.
Sue has been Lottery Calendar Chair since the project was
created more than 10 years ago. The sisters are also actively
involved in the Chapter Sports Jamboree.
Liz helps with Hug-a-Bears and other local projects. Jim and
his wife, Karen, also help with the Hug-A-Bears. Liz, Jim, and
Karen have volunteered many hours raising funds for the Reading
Club by taking tickets at the Reading Fair each summer. Hats off
to a great Pioneer family! (Pictured l-r: Linda Epler presents
her mother, Doris, with the Verizon Hall of Fame Award in 2001) |

Baby shower for expectant mothers in need
By: Ann Durkin
On Oct. 1, 2005, the Life Member Club BX 1 in
the Bronx, NY, was hosting St. Brendan's Annual Baby Shower for
Expectant Mothers in Need for the 11th year. They were a busy,
happy group, gathering the baby articles knitted by our members
and friends. Besides knitting blankets and beautiful sweater
outfits, this group also went shopping with donations from our
members and bought several baby outfits and other much-needed
items.
St. Brendan's Respect for Life Society, sponsor of the
shower, acknowledged the Ladies of the TelecomPioneers for their
much-needed help and "showered" them with praise in the weekly
church bulletin. All of these donations were given to Rosalie
Hall, Sisters of Life Homes for Unwed Mothers and to the Aisling
Community Center. Thank you to Helen O'Sullivan, Noreen Brady,
Janet Runge, Grace Siemer, Ann Durkin, and Agnes McGarry. |
